Noyers

Arches and doorways

A simple littletown, pretty but not prettied up

A pianist rehearsing for a concert in the church

One of the many wonderful Misericords,
this one a woodworker

A ceiling door for reenactments of the Ascension, possibly?
We saw a lot of them inBurgundy.

Semur

This town is more famous than Noyers--four big towers, ramparts, and (below) a couple ofstunning warmemorials

The church, Collégial Notre-Dame de Semur-en-Auxois, first half of the13th century

Inside the gates of the wall; a sweeping, unspoiled perspective

Fontenay
Then, one wants to say, there is Fontenay, the most impressive sight in all Burgundy. Witheverything else (or nearly) in ruins, the abbey seems splendidly preserved, isolated, serene. Climbthe stairs, turn the corner, and you could disappear forever--if only you could getin!
