River cruise with the Chicago Architectural Foundation August 2017
The Wrigley Bulding
Our guide could not bring himself to pronounce the name of this one. Wonder whom he voted for?
The river shows off a handsome mix of old and new. The best guides are able to point out the dialogue, so to speak, that goes on among the buildings and between some of them and the river itself.
Still a standout, even with the logo on it: 333 North Wacker
Sharp angles and river-inspired curves top and bottom (on the right).
We still think of it as Sears Tower (actually Willis Tower for these many years, whoever Willis is)
On the north branch
East of Michigan Avenue, the architecture is a lot less interesting. Streeterville is mostly in dialogue with itself.
