A visit to Alta Vista and Lourdes, Iowa

In Alta Vista, a striking war memorial

The cemetery in Lourdes

The grave of our mother's parents, Elizabeth Falada and Martin Birmingham, on the right

On the farm

The garden on the farm looks great

In Lourdes, the schoolhouse our mother taught in during the early 1930s

A garage has been added, and I tried to process it away (right)
When I visited Lourdes in 2009. Nice to see that the place is well-kept. Elsewhere in Lourdes:

I remember those commercials, "You can trust your car to the man who wears the star . . . ."
I was always partial to Texaco, which for ages sponsored radio broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. That's how I first heard and heard about opera.
