Lohengrin, Act 3, scene 2

The last scene is very dark, murky, and everybody seems to be in black. You can see Elsa reaching up for Ortrud's hand on the left--ladies have to stick together in a man's world, it's clear. Lohengrin, right, is about to role over and disappear into the sinkhold in the middle of the stage, slightly green (the hole, that is). Little Gottfried will take the banner from the dying (why?) King Henry and position himself prematurely but impressively before the rising--or setting?--sun (or moon?).
