Iowa to Illiois July 6, 2021
Blue skies over Iowa.
Pictures from the funeral of Linette Atwood Tally here.
It was a beautiful day to be on Highway 20 between Waterloo and Dubuque: light traffic, wonderful clouds in the sky, and lots of light. 3.12 p.m., first picture

Highway 20 outside of Dubuque, and then heading for the bridge to Illinois.

Signs before the bridge.

The bridge about 3.30 p.m.

Looking north to another bridge and some very blue water

There are a couple of handsome old houses near the foot of the bridge in East Dubuque, below.

In Galena, the Ryan House, far right (below), which I remember from my students days at Loras College 1965-69.

Galena was U. S. Grant’s home for a while; picture at 3.50 p.m.

Sweeping views

In Elizabeth, IL 4:06 p.m.

A pair of nice storefronts

The brewery in the former church was once an antique shop where,
about 40 year ago, I found some lusters that George still has.

Leaving Elizabeth, the road turns into a straight shot near Freeport and the drive loses its river charm.
